Team Jeep/CJB Construction Atomic Criterium and Quincy Road Race Results
It has been a very busy few weeks and I am seriously lagging behind on updates for the team’s race results. Team Jeep/CJB Construction continues to have excellent race results which was demonstrated during the Big Bend Cycling Festival in Tallahassee, FL on April 5th & 6th.
Saturday’s Atomic Criterium in downtown Tallahasse showed how strong our women’s team is with Melissa Coombes taking 1st Place in the Women’s Category 4 race. Melissa managed to lap the women’s field and win the race in another dominating performance. Since this is Melissa’s first year of road racing, officials wanted her to get some more race experience before upgrading…after the crit she was upgraded to a Cat 3 and raced Sunday’s road race as a Cat 3.

Team Jeep/CJB Construction Reaffirms Reputation of Strength Rolling Into the 2008 Season
Team Jeep enjoyed a very successful season opener last weekend at Rouge Roubaix. 13 members strong, Jeep rolled into the parking lot of the St. Francisville Inn ready to race. Saturday afternoon all gathered for a short pre-ride. We drove out to the first of three dirt sections and rode both the first and infamous 1.5 mile hill. It was great to get out of the car and onto the bike! Nerves subsided after seeing the great condition of the gravel roads (remember this is all relative!). In the past the sections of gravel/dirt roads have been treacherous, but thanks to a little Louisiana downpour two days prior, the gravel and dirt were well packed for our steady 23-25 mph pace.
After the 1.5 hour roll around the course, we drove back to the hotel to enjoy a “boot camp” style shower to make our dinner reservations on time. The reservation for 30 at the Cypress Grill was a sight to behold. Team Jeep dominated the restaurant and definitely overwhelmed the kitchen!! We enjoyed some excellent Cajun blues music and a special meal of pasta prepared just for us, thanks to Don. The food was great and company unparalleled. Read the rest of this entry »

Team Jeep/CJB Construction Has Successful Rouge Roubaix 2008
Rouge Roubaix was Team Jeep/CJB Construction’s first major targeted race for the 2008 season. This years Rouge Roubaix was epic with excellent course conditions on the dirt sections and…although a brisk 34F in morning…very favorable race weather. Raising Canes Racing Team put on a stellar race and we thank them for all of their hard work, cool race swag and the generous payouts to all the race categories. Great Job!!
Team Jeep/CJB Construction had a great Rouge performance with solid results from our team in both the A & B race categories. Our B race category team had a stellar performance with Destry LeBrun taking 1st place, Melissa Coomes 1st place Women’s and 3rd overall, Rachel Massey 2nd place Women’s and 10th overall, John Brizzard our junior rider taking 7th overall, and Ty Turbyfill with 12th!
Our A Team had a strong showing with both Donal Davis placing 7th and Cal Partlow taking 11th in Masters 35+ Category.
We look forward to racing Rouge Roubaix next year and are anticipating many more great results throughout the 2008 season!
Have Fun Out There!

Tanzanai III Charity Ride, Feb. 23rd; rolling at 9:00 sharp…
To All…
This is your semi-final reminder about the Tanzania III Charity Bicycle Ride…60 miles, flat and fast (You don’t have to ride the full distance…this is an all skill-level ride–not a race! There are lots of turnaround spots!)
WHO? anyone with a bicycle, all skill levels are welcome, and you do not have to ride the entire course; you can ride as little as 5 miles…for experienced riders/racers, this will be a great time to “stretch your legs” against/with some of the best local riders in the area…it’s not a race, but…
WHY ?: to raise the necessary funds to send a 28-member mission team to Tanzania this Summer to perform two weeks of mission work…
HOW MUCH? $30.00, please make checks payable to COTA (Church of the Apostles)…in the memo section, please write: Tanzania III, 2008 Mission Trip. We will also have T-shirts for sale…proceeds will go toward the mission trip as well…
WHERE? the new Church Of the Apostles property, which many of you helped to fund by riding in last year’s event…mapquest: Shoreline Power Equipment and Service, 24305 Highway 98, Fairhope, AL 36532…our COTA church bus will be parked on Highway 98…just follow the arrows…
WHEN? Saturday, February, 23rd at 9:00 sharp…we roll at 9:00…show up early; hopefully, parking will be tight…
After the ride, we will be serving a light lunch. In addition, we will be offering free massage for those sore legs.
Please note that I am not having pre-registration for this event; if you could, for the sake of having enough but not too much food, please e-mail me if you plan on riding this event…it would really help me out if I could get a rough head count!
For you local racers preparing for Rouge Roubaix, Guy Lott will be leading a post-Tanzania III ride heading up Hwy 225 for all of the hill work you’ll need to complete an outstanding pre-Roubaix “tune-up.” The total miles will be 100+…
Finally, if you could please e-mail this to anyone who might be remotely interested, I would certainly appreciate it.
As always….
Rock On…
Peace…

Four years later: U.S. MTB program improves Olympic position
Entering the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the U.S. was ranked 13th in the world in men’s mountain biking and seventh in the women’s standings, but after several mountain bike related initiatives were implemented by USA Cycling over the course of the last three years, the U.S.’ nation’s ranking for both men and women has improved considerably. Now, ten months away from the 2008 Games in Beijing, the U.S. is poised to send the maximum of two women to China, while a two-man team is also likely after the U.S. increased its ranking from 13th to sixth in the world. USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Development Director Matt Cramer sat down with the USA Cycling Communications Department to explain the qualification process, the U.S’ efforts to qualify the maxiumum amount of athletes and some of the programs created by USA Cycling to bolster its international success. http://www.usacycling.org/
